Determinants of Mental Health Service Use for Elderly£º Focusing on Family Carer`s Professional Help-Seeking Attitude

Abstract
This study aims to investigate the determinants of the use of mental health service and to examine the relationship between family carer`s professional help-seeking attitude and use of mental health services for elderly. A survey of 342 family carer from Suwon-city and Yongin-city were retrieved and used for Hierarchical Binary Logistic Regression analysis using SPSS Win. 18 program. The result shows that professional help-seeking attitude of family carer were statistically significant predictors of the use of elderly mental health services. In terms of the determinants of the use of mental health services, family carer`s age, the long-term care grade, the period of care, care stress had statistically significant effects on using mental health services for elderly. Implications for paying more attention to the family carer and for promoting more policy and program for detecting elderly`s mental health problem in early stage were suggested.
